A MANIC LIFE

Up and down, up and down, that’s where we are bound
BP for bi-polar disorder, MD for manic depression, we go round and round
There’s a time you think to yourself, you are the one and only
Another time your down and desolated and very lonely

They say it’s a curse on our lives, or is it a gift?
Relationships disintegrate, family’s  fragment, what a rift
Yes our manic minds can create well, we can be a boon
But we can go out of our minds then the hospitals coming soon

Winston Churchill had this black dog on his shoulder
Stephen Fry went missing but he came back bolder
Adam Ant produced a gun, Kerry Katona danced all around
But then we go into depression and from us you will not hear a sound

‘A Modern day crucifixion’ I’ve heard it being called
Going into the black pit of depression, it leaves us appalled
When we’re high, energies are boundless and never ending
We think we can change the world, grand ideas we are sending

Our hero boxer, Frank Bruno felt the hand of  MD
A newspaper called him bonkers, stigma all around you see
But we can recover with meds, diet and talking therapy
Talking it out with a professional, that is one key

Suicide’s not the answer as the sun will shine through the cloud
This manic knows that full well and wants to shout it out loud
Join a self-help depression group; get welcomed to the ‘family’
Exorcise the demons; share your hopes for such a small fee

It’s 1 in 4 of us who suffer a mental health problem
That’s lots of folks and please don’t think their dim
Vincent Van Gogh, Mozart and Byron the poet were part of this crew
Don’t ignore us, support us, as who knows, next up could be you!
