Campaigns  [Top]

Throughout the year we target the public, press and parliamentarians with a variety of influential and challenging events and initiatives. We also work with healthcare professionals to secure better service provision for people with depression, and lobby government to influence policymaking in this health field.
Depression Awareness Week is an annual initiative supported by health professionals, politicians, celebrities and the media. Each year we select a specific campaign theme for the week, raising awareness of a particularly serious or prevalent aspect of depression.

The work of our media case studies is crucial in enabling Depression Alliance to achieve its aim of showing the general public the realities of living with depression. Our existing media case studies have collaborated with the BBC on radio broadcasts, been interviewed on GMTV and ITN News, and have had their stories featured in the printed press, from The Guardian to The Sun. If you would be interested in sharing your own experiences of depression with journalists on behalf of Depression Alliance, please e-mail casestudies@depressionalliance.org.

Depression Awareness Week™ is fast approaching. It's now been over 13 years since we first launched the campaign which, thanks to all your support has grown into one of the most successful initiatives in the busy awareness campaign calendar.

Depression Awareness Week™ is a fantastic opportunity to raise the profile of depression, and help us raise money to develop and improve the range of services we offer. The theme this year will be 'Employment'

  1. Organise a fundraising event

We can make it easy for you to organise your own fundraising event: you can request a poster and a press release template to inform local people and press about your event by e-mailing us at publications@depressionalliance.org. The pack also includes a sponsorship form to make copies of and use to collect sponsorship money.

You can also set up your own online fundraising page through www.justgiving.com/depression/raisemoney/. Tell us when you've set your page up so we can tell other supporters who may sponsor you. Remember also to send us photos (digital if possible) and details of your event so that we can feature it on the website or in the newsletter. You can email us or contact the DA Office with details.

  2. Put up posters or organise an awareness day

Download our general information poster which we would like you to display in your local doctor's surgery, library, community centre or gym (don't forget to ask permission first!). Feel free to make copies if you wish. These posters will raise awareness of depression and inform people of our services. (Please note that this poster is a large file - 11mb)

    Download the poster (PDF)

  3. Share your story

If you would like to tell your story about your experiences and how you have overcome depression, please consider becoming a Depression Alliance Case Study Volunteer. We work with around fifty case study volunteers who share their experiences with local and national press, radio and television in order to raise awareness of depression and reduce the stigma attached to it.

Depression Awareness Week™  [Top]

National Depression Week™ has now been rebranded as Depression Awareness Week™. This is now one of the most successful initiatives in the busy awareness campaign calendar. Support for the campaign grows year on year, reaching an ever-widening audience of health professionals, politicians and the general public. Working through a variety of media, including the press, our publications and the internet, we have made real progress in changing the way depression is viewed in the 21st century.

The aim of Depression Awareness Week™ is to raise awareness about the realities of depression and to reduce the stigma associated with it. Each year’s campaign highlights a new and topical theme within the field of depression. In previous years we have focused on depression and suicide, depression in the workplace, and on the myths and misunderstandings surrounding the condition.
