Side by Side Project
Peer Support means giving and receiving support on an equal basis, by people who share something in common.
At Depression Alliance were pleased to be involved in the national evaluation into peer support that is taking place currently across England. Working alongside Mind and Bipolar UK and funded by the Big Lottery, 9 regions have been selected and we are working in 3 of them: Northamptonshire, Plymouth and West London.
The Side by Side programme aims to improve the lives of people experiencing mental health problems across England through access to peer support and we have social support groups and meet ups in all three areas.
In Northamptonshire we are regularly meeting up across the county from Towcester, via Northampton up to Corby and at many places in between. Please contact Tina Harrisskitt on 07983 293301 Tinah@depressionalliance.org for more information.
In Plymouth we have found some lovely venues to meet up and our local activities there are coordinated by Duncan who can be contacted on 07765 363746 or Duncan@depressionalliance.org.
In West London we are working alongside our local Friendsinneed colleagues so are able to offer many and varied opportunities for support. Louise Jones can tell you more about the project in this area: Louise@depressionalliance.org 07964 401636 and about Depression Alliance's overall role in the Side By Side project.
All meet ups are posted on our friendsinneed site: search under Groups for Side by Side. Log and see how you can become involved.
