Lack of awareness from employers

New research released yesterday by AXA PPP Healthcare shows bosses are more likely to accept back pain than depression as a reason to stay home from work.

In light of our Work in Progress campaign, our CEO Emer O'Neill, has the following response:
"Stigma and lack of understanding about depression and its impact makes people feel unable to disclose to employers and colleagues that they are unwell. Living and working in an environment where you cannot be open about the condition is a guaranteed way to make things worse and possibly make relapse more likely. Depression happens, that's a fact! We're here to work with employers to understand the value of creating healthier work places. Its very often simple changes like training for managers on depression and supporting staff in setting up or accessing a network of 'peer support', that's other people who just get it, and know how to make recovery happen, that can make a significant difference to employers and employees."
